Mauritius - DTT launch in 2006?
With the government delaying the launch of DTT services, a private entrepreneur has taken it upon himself to launch such services.
Maxime King, head of London Satellite Systems (LSS) hopes to launch DTT services in early 2006 and reach 30,000 households within the first 2 months. Already, LSS has offered satellite services since 1998.
LSS has already established its business model which will offer 3 free-to-air television programme services and a pay package of 15 additional programme services. The initial service will offer an improved image quality compared with analogue terrestrial television. Interactivity will be launched as a second step.
It may be possible that LSS encounters difficulties with the government since it has not yet given its approval for the state-owned network operator to launch DTT services. However, LSS is confident since it manages its own network. In terms of authorisation, LSS will rely on the analogue terrestrial licenses that it already holds.
