United States - First Dyle-enabled smartphone launches

The telecom operator MetroPCS Communications and the manufacturer Samsung have announced the launch of a new mobile device capable of accessing live television services.

The Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G smartphone allows users to access the Dyle mobile television network set up by a coalition of broadcasters. This is the first smartphone to access the Dyle network.

Access to the broadcast network will be available to MetroPCS subscribers at no additional cost. The Dyle broadcast network uses the ATSC-M/H standard and has been rolled out by broadcaster operating under the alliance of the Mobile Content Venture.

The service will be available in 15 broadcast markets. Further smartphones will be available from LG while Elgato and Belkin will make doggles available to access mobile broadcast content from portable devices.
