Italy - Interest in Mediaset Premium from Al Jazeera and RTL

The media groups Al Jazeera and RTL have expressed an interest in the pay-DTT platform Mediaset Premium.

According to media reports, it could be in the interest of Mediaset to form a strategic alliance with a large media group. However, Mediaset does not currently have any plans to do so. While it acknowledged that it had been approached by RTL and Al Jazeera, it denied that any negotiations were underway.

Currently Mediaset Premium has 2 million subscribers. While it ended 2010 without any losses, in 2011 losses reached €70 million.
