France - France Télévisions launches new HbbTV service Salto

The public service broadcaster France Télévisions has launched a new time-shifted service on the DTT platform. This service uses the HbbTV standard.

Known as Salto, the service allows viewers to "re-start" a programme that is currently on the air. It is available across all five of France Télévisions' programme services (France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5 and France O) as of 20h each evening until midnight.

When the service is available for a given television programme, viewers will see a small icon on the right side of the screen. To "re-start" the programme, viewers will need to press on the blue button of their remote control. They will then be able to watch the programme from its beginning.

As a first step, the new service allows viewers to re-launch a television programme. However, France Télévisions plans to add further features such as fast-forward, rewind and pause.
