United Kingdom - DTG warns DTT platform needs safeguards for continued success

In a presentation at the Westminster eForum, Richard Lindsay-Davies, head of the DTG, called on the continued innovation of the DTT platform. However, he warned of the need to provide the platform with safeguards.

Lindsay-Davies noted that the key challenges facing the platform will be the introduction of 4G mobile data services and the use of "White Spaces" in the UHF frequency band.

He announced that the government will use the DTG's Testing Centre to simulate the effects of 4G interference on digital television receivers.

Lindsay-Davies finished his presentation by noting the success of the switchover process, set to be completed in October, which serves as a strong foundation to help ensure that the UK continues to take a leading role in the global development of emerging television technology.
