France - CSA issues report on developing access services on DTT platform

The broadcast regulator CSA has issued a report on the development of access services on the DTT platform. The report was prepared by Mediatvcom.

With this report, the CSA seeks to help develop the market for French-language access service enabled DTT set-top boxes in France. Currently, such set-top boxes are not available.

The report provides an overview of access services available in Ireland, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States. It also defines a technical specification for an access-service enabled DTT set-top box. Finally, the report provides an economic analysis for the development such set-top boxes in France.

As a result of this study, the CSA has recommended that the government amend existing legislation to require manufacturers to make available at least one receiver enabled for access services.
