United Kingdom - Over 4 million HD/DTT receivers sold

A total of 4.4 million Freeview HD receivers have now been sold in the United Kingdom at the end of 2011. This allows viewers to access the free-to-air HD services on the DTT platform.

Of these, 1.3 million Freeview HD receivers were sold in the fourth quarter of 2011. Freeview HD receivers accounts for 30% of all DTT receiver sales.

Viewers can access 4 HD services and up to 50 standard-definition services on HD/DTT platform. In addition, when connected to the Internet, viewers can access such services as the BBC iPlayer, and YouTube.

The HD/DTT platform is currently available to 81% of the population and will reach 98.5% of the population by the end of 2012.

It is estimated that 2 million households actively using the HD/DTT platform.
