Norway - NRK to provide HD services on DTT platform

The public service broadcaster NRK has announced plans to provide its television programme services on the DTT platform in high-definition (HD) quality.

This will be possible in early 2012 once additional capacity is made available on the DTT platform. Analogue switch-off was completed in December 2009 and 5 multiplexes have been reserved for DTT services.

Currently, NRK's main television programme service, NRK1, is made available in HD.

The DTT receiver specification in Norway requires all receivers to be capable of processing HD signals. The DVB-T standard is used in combination with MPEG-4 AVC.
