Poland - Commercial broadcasters move to MUX 2
The broadcast regulator KRRiT has agreed to allow the commercial broadcasters on the analogue terrestrial platform to provide their DVB-T services from Multiplex 2.
Initially, Multiplex 1 was to provide the simulcast of the existing analogue terrestrial platform as well as a new service from the public service broadcaster TVP. However, because TVP could not give its agreement on the technical operator of the multiplex, services had not officially launched.
As a result of the move of the television services Polsat, TVN, TV4 and TV Puls from Multiplex 1 to Multiplex 2, it will be possible for DTT services to be launched on a national scale. All commercial broadcasters have agreed that the broadcast network operator Emitel will serve as the technical operator of the multiplex.
In addition, each of the broadcasters will be given an additional DTT service slot for a new television programme service. TV Puls has announced plans to launch a children's service, Pulse Kids, while TVN make its service TVN 7th available.
The services of TVP (TVP 1, TVP 2, TVP Info) will remain on Multiplex 1. TVP also operates Multiplex 3 although coverage for this multiplex is limited until after the completion of analogue switch-off. The use of the remaining capacity on Multiplex 1 has not yet been decided.
