Spain - Royal Decree approved mandating HD DVB-T for receivers sized 21" and above

The Council of Ministers has approved a Royal Decree regarding HD services on the DTT platform.

According to the decree, all television sets sized 21 inches or more must be able to receive HD services (MPAG-4 AVC).

In addition, broadcasters on the DTT platform are allowed to provide HD services and will not be required to obtain a separate license. Rather, broadcasters will only need to inform authorities about their planned service offering.

In multiplexes shared by several broadcasters, all broadcasters must agree to on how to share the capacity, including the capacity for HD services. Should no agreement be possible, the Comisión del Mercado de las Telecommunicaciones (CMT) will arbitrate.
