United States - Mobile broadcast television trial begins

A trial of mobile broadcast service has been launched in Washington, DC by the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC). The trial aims to build public awareness about mobile television.

Nine local broadcasters are participating in the initiative which allows viewers to access of over 20 television programme services. A variety of mobile devices are available to access the content including mobile telephones, netbooks, portable media players, and laptop computers, iPhones and iPads using a special adapter.

This trial coincides with discussions currently underway between lawmakers regarding the use of broadcast spectrum following the publication of the FCC's national broadband plan.
