Italy - ASO moved forward to 2011?

The Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Paolo Romani, has announced that considerations are underway to bring forward the date for the completion of analogue switch-off.

According to the current timetable, analogue switch-off is set to be completed in 2012. However, Romani would like the regions that will complete the process in 2012 (Tuscany, Umbria, Sicily and Calabria) to do so in 2011. He has announced that he will speak to the presidents of these regions to determine whether or not this would be possible.

The head of the DGTVi, Andrea Ambrogetti, agreed that such a proposal is feasible given that, by the end of the year, 70% of the population will have completed analogue switch-off by the end of 2010 and DTT penetration will have reached 85% of households. However, he noted that any revisions to the timetable must be done immediately.
