Spain - HD/DTT trial in Madrid and Barcelona

Trial HD services are underway in the cities of Barcelona and Madrid. The trial is jointly conducted by the broadcast network operator Abertis and the Ministry of Industry.

Broadcasters participating in the trial include TVE HD, Canal+ HD, Telecinco HD and Go TV HD. The trial will examine the quality of different codecs and data rates.

Following the completion of analogue switch-off, the government is expected to provide broadcasters with access to one full multiplex. It is expected that some broadcasters will use the additional capacity to provide HDTV services on the DTT platform.
