Italy - Pay-per-view DTT increases revenue for broadcasters

The pay-per-view (PPV) DTT service offered by commercial broadcasters in Italy is proving to be a success. Both Mediaset and Telecom Italia Media have reported increases in their PPV DTT revenue for the year 2006.

Mediaset has reported that it sold 1.1 million new rechargeable pre-paid cards and 4.1 million recharges in 2006. Altogether, its PPV service generated €108 million, compared with €44 million in 2005.

Telecom Italia Media has reported that its PPV DTT service generated €31.5 million in 2006 compared with €10.4 million in 2005. The broadcaster also announced that it had sold more than 1 million La7 Cartapiu PPV smart-cards.
