China - Local DTT standard selected

The Standardization Administration of China (SAC) announced that it has selected a Chinese format for the national digital television broadcasting standard. Formal implementation of the standard is expected on 1 August 2007.

The new standard is called "Frame Structure, Channel Code and Modem for Digital TV Ground Broadcasting Transmission System". It is based on Tsinghua University's DMB-T standard and Shanghai Jiaotong University's ADTB-T standard.

It is estimated that 10 million households will access DTT services within the first year following its launch.
