:: About DigiTAG
|
Objectives Ensuring a thriving terrestrial television market DigiTAG aims to encourage and facilitate the introduction and implementation of digital terrestrial television services using the standards developed by Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB). The interests of the viewer, broadcast content suppliers, network operators and consumer equipment manufacturers are all best served in an open environment in which the implemented digital television systems are fully interoperable. To this end, the widespread introduction of digital terrestrial television and receivers based upon open standards (in particular the DVB standards) is key. The conditions under which open standards are adopted must be encouraged to develop, and their advantages promoted widely to regulators and throughout the industry, including to those whose business is based upon other delivery media. Why is DigiTAG needed? DVB has successfully put in place a series of Specifications and Guidelines, which offer technological solutions for digital television in all transmission media. However, adoption of the DVB standards for digital terrestrial television does not guarantee success for such services in the market place. DigiTAG is tackling important steps on the road to the switch-over from analogue to digital terrestrial technology so as to ensure a smooth transition. The migration to digital terrestrial television will result in a major change in mass communication and many countries are already planning to implement digital terrestrial services following significant technical and service field trials. DigiTAG offers a dynamic forum for experts in all sectors of the business to share knowledge and to act in coordination to bring digital terrestrial services into the market in a short time period. |
